Why do bad things happen to good people? (Luke 13) There are 4 reasons (to carry on the work of John the Baptist, Stephen and James who were martyred as Paul and others took up the mantle):
1) There are about 160,000 Christians killed every year by direct act from false religions and the occult (Luke 13.1-3). And martyrs will be recompensed (Luke 14.13) for the kingdom of heaven.
2) Accidents and other bad things can happen (Luke 13.4-5) is because of the curse that is in operation that was released in the garden of Eden, so we live in a fallen realm (Gen. 3.14-19).
There are some things that faith can't achieve in rare occasions. However, this is faith's largest triumph because such things can't be obtained in in this life. They are obtained heaven. Those whose faith is this great, the world is not worthy of them.
3) If people fail to do their job correctly, are lazy, complacent, lethargic, and do not do their job with excellence, this can open the door to the curse (Luke 13.6-9). That's why God talks so much in Proverbs and Ecclesiastes to be diligent and not be a sluggard because it keeps the door closed against the curse. When a plane crashes what's the cause?
4) Demonic forces attack and can create infirmity (Luke 13.10-12). There is a warfare going on right now as we speak from second heaven by Satan and the fallen angels upon man. Some demons were let out of the abyss when God split the firmament on day 2 of restoration (it was not a good day). The demons are disembodied spirits trying to find a body to house.
People die prematurely because God removed them from idolatry.
"The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth [it] to heart: and merciful men [are] taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil [to come]" (Isaiah 57.1).
