Churchwork

One of the things that give the Bible authenticity is when it records Jesus' sayings that the Church would never have invented because it would make Jesus look less than God.
For example, a man ran up to Jesus and asked, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus asked him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One-God" (Mark 10.17,18).
Of course it is not denying Jesus is God, but pointing out only God is truly good.
This passage also is not talking about works salvation, but the reward of reigning in the millennial kingdom which is based on works. Rewards are done away with after the millennial kingdom.
The list of items one must do are to receive the reward of reigning with Christ during the millennial kingdom, not to receive eternal life. Having eternal life already, one should then run the race.
