All 5 points of Calvinism collapse if Total depravity is false. Like all cults, they take a piece of Scripture and alter its original intent. It is quite evident. What Calvinists don't understand is what "dead" means.
Dead doesn't mean Total depravity, but various phrases are used in The Spiritual Man (CFP white cover only, 700 pages) by Watchman Nee can help.
"Insensitive spirit"
"Cessation of communication" with environment
"Disassociation from life"
"Ineffective"
Your spirit still functions with its conscience, intuition and communing ability, but it has lost its sensitivity and communication with God, so there is a cessation from and disassociation from Him.
Hence, the Bible constantly implores and urges you to repent and believe in Him. If you search God out with all your heart and soul, you shall surely find Him. This is not a work in the normal sense, for a work would be like doing work to get saved like all other religions. But we all have sufficient grace given to us to search God out with all our heart and soul.
He will give you the gift of repentance and faith unto regeneration (new birth, born-again, eternal life, new creation).
p.s. Watchman Nee wrote 70 books (from CFP and CLC only; avoid the LSM cult under Calvinist Witness Lee). His own library had over 2000 books. Some say W. Nee had the highest IQ in Christendom (not everyone is saved in Christendom the outward appearance of the kingdom of heaven) even higher than Swedenborg (Swedenborg was not a Christian) and in the history of the Church. And God produced over 200 Apostles in China in his day. Nee was martyred the last 20 years of his life in jail for being a Christian. He was a spiritual Christian, whereas most Christians though saved and have eternal life are carnal Christians so they lose the reward of returning with Christ to reign over the nations for 1000 years (Jude 14,15; Rev. 2.26,27; 20.4-6). Nee taught some important things the Church has often been confused on, but they are resolved by the proof of Scripture. Those 5 teachings are: dividing of spirit, soul and body (Heb. 4.12, 1 Thess. 5.23); Scriptural locality; osas arminian; gap restoration; and of course, partial rapture (Rev. 3.10, Luke 21.36, Matt. 24.40-42). Each of these teachings is 100% true. We can go over specific verses to support these important teachings in God's word. There will be lots of argument, but if you remain patient, you will understand and the purpose behind these 5 deeper truths in God's word.
