Coptic Christians are not Christian for many reasons. They believe like the Roman Catholics, Russian Orthodox and other Easter Orthodoxers in salvation by works, but the Bible is clear those who are born-again "they shall never perish" (John 10.28).

Similar to the Roman Catholics they elect a Pope. There was no Pope in the Bible. They do it in a weird way too. They have a young boy randomly pick three names out of a chalice and that person becomes the new Pope.

I saw that 60 Minutes episode also. Coptic's emphasize the baby Jesus when he fled to Egypt with his mother. Since the Bible does not emphasize the youth of Jesus, it would not follow that the Church should. Think of it this way. The sacrifice in the time Jesus took to learn the Scriptures speaks of His consecration. And then His ministry began at the age of 34 years old about 30 AD before going to the cross 33 AD.

People in their flesh, especially races of people and regional types, are always seeking something to exalt themselves by. This is what Coptics are doing so they have a bunch of strange traditions and false teachings.

Naïve Coptics may be saved, but "knowing" Coptics are not born-again, because if they truly accepted Christ they would renounce their Coptic faith. They are not members of the body of Christ. This is not true of just Coptics, but Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox, Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians and other cult-like denominations like The Local Church.

I have never heard of this group before. Thanks for the imformation though. I do not support a work based view of Christianity either.
