Why did Jesus come? That He might call sinners to repentance. Why did Jesus sit with publicans and sinners? The Pharisees too afraid to ask Jesus asked one of his disciples. When the Lord heard about it, He replied: "I am not come to call the righteous ones but sinners to repentance."

Actually, everyone is a sinner, and here He is referring to self-righteous ones, for they won't listen so though He dies for all, He can't force them to listen, such as atheists and Muslims and Hindus who are self-righteous.

God gives the law not for men to keep but rather for them to know that they cannot keep it. To know the futility of your own flesh is a great awakening. It's only verdict is death on the cross. Hence, this is God's righteous treatment of the human condition. No other religion does this whereby God pays for our sins to be received whoever is willing. We must conclude then this is God's design.

"What then is the law? It was added," declares the Scriptures, "because of transgressions" (Gal. 3.19a) to show no man keep the law. Not a one except the Son of God could keep the law perfectly Who came to fill up the law.

Jesus did not come to get you to keep the law but to save you. To get you to keep the law is something you can't do, but in Christ all things are possible in due time.
