Watchman Nee (CLC) believed there should be just one Elder of a locality when he wrote,
"There cannot be many local 'heads' of churches, or there would at once be schism in the Body, and Paul is not suggesting that there can. Rather, he is using in 1 Corinthians [chapter 12] the metaphor of the human body to illustrate practical principles of relatedness and function, by which the heavenly and eternal Body of Christ operates down here."
