"So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns" (Rev. 17.3).Since "the woman that you saw is the great city" (Rev. 17.18) is sitting on the scarlet beast, how can the the woman be directing both the Roman Empire (with 7 hills as 7 heads) and the Antichrist (made up of the seven villains)?
I think this indicates the Roman Church as the great harlot about the city is going to be surprisingly powerful in the future. Sure, they have a lot of power now, but I think they will have a lot more power, equally as much as the Roman Empire and the Antichrist. There is a union of the Roman Church and the Roman state. Indirectly through the state, it acts against some people.
