"Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us purify ourselves from every pollution of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God's fear" (2 Cor. 7.1).
The spirit is our innerman. The flesh is the sin of the body and the self of the soul. The body and the soul comprise our outerman. The self can itself also be very sinful; sin is not the domain of only the body. Man can give Satan strongholds in his mind in which to plant deceptions. Even the spirit can sin, for it does so sin when indwelt by the evil spirit, following the leading of the evil spirit. One most certainly can have a sinful conscience and corrupt communion and darkened intuition deep within.
