It can be said that one's status at the time of his salvation usually governs the character of that one's later work and ministry.
This is seen when Jesus called Peter and John. Peter was casting the net and John was mending the nets. John taught of a later era how we are to behave in such an our of the falling away of the church in apostacy, and in a time of many atheists, when John wrote the epistles. He hed people back to Him "who is from the beginning" (1 John 2.13).
Peter first cast a net upon the Jews then the Gentiles. John wrote the last of the Gospels at a very late hour in the church history which focuses on Jesus as God, not king, not man, not servant. And love.
Mat 4:18 As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
Mat 4:19 And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Mat 4:20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Mat 4:21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zeb'edee and John his brother, in the boat with Zeb'edee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.
According to John 1.34-42 Jesus talked to Peter and Andrew previously so they intelligently considered Jesus before being His disciples.
Jhn 1:35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples;
Jhn 1:36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"
Jhn 1:37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.
Jhn 1:38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"
Jhn 1:39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
Jhn 1:40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
Jhn 1:41 He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means Christ).
Jhn 1:42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter).
Ask yourself what was your condition at the time of your salvation, and maybe that well help you see more clearly the kind of work to do for the Lord that is best suited for you.
