Default What is the Combined Career +/- of the Edmonton Oiler Forwards for 2019/20 Season?

    Forwards
    Gagner -115
    RNH -45
    Granlund -39
    Sheahan -37
    Kassian -35
    Chiasson -27
    Khaira -20
    Draisaitl -17
    Total Negative = -339
    McDavid +49
    Neal +30
    Total Positive = +79
    Offense Total = -260

    Defense
    Klefbom -47
    Nurse -5
    Russell -5
    Total Negative = -57
    Benning +24
    Larsson +16
    Total Positive = +40
    Defense Total = -17
    Overall Total = -277

These numbers don't give me much confidence in Holland and Tippett.

The secret to these numbers is we can't be too hard on players who are slightly negative like Khaira and Draisaitl, Nurse and K. Russell, because that is the nature of being on a crappy team (a decreasing tide sinks all boats), but on the other hand to be the worst players +/- on the team such as Gagner and RNH requires a change. Oilers need to once and for all get rid of RNH and Klefbom. That's the final piece of the puzzle. Of course, they can probably get some good players in exchange with a more positive +/-.

    Oilers 4 Devils 3 (SO)

    Draisaitl – McDavid – Kassian
    Jurco – Nugent-Hopkins – Neal
    Khaira – Sheahan – P. Russell
    Nygard – Haas – Granlund

    Nurse – Bear
    Klefbom – Persson
    K. Russell – Benning

Nygard and Nurse, not covering anyone, were totally out of position on the Devil's 2nd goal. Take your man! Nurse had the presence of mind to skate back but then was caught in no man's land as was Nygard. Nurse had the 1st penalty of the game. Sometimes I think Nurse is not too bright.

Nurse is driving me crazy. Several time in this game all he had to do was slap it to the goalie but instead he shoots it off the side and turns into a dud. He needs to shoot on net more. Anything can happen. It could get tipped in.

    Oilers 4 Rangers 1

    Draisaitl – McDavid – Kassian
    Jurco – Nugent-Hopkins – Neal
    Khaira – Sheahan – Archibald
    Nygard – Granlund – Chiasson

    Nurse – Bear
    Klefbom – Persson
    K. Russell – Benning

    Smith

Things that I remember that stand out were

    1) Nygard #10 is fast
    2) Even though Bear #74 has the worst +/- on the team (this can be fixed) he passes it well coming out of the zone, or even before coming out of the zone, in tight quarters. When there is not much room to pass it to someone he does a great job of lofting the puck out of our zone. He just needs to improve his +/-.

    Oilers 6 Flyers 3

    Draisaitl - McDavid - Kassian
    Chiasson - Nugent-Hopkins - Neal
    Khaira - Sheahan - P. Russell
    Jurco - Granlund - Archibald

    Nurse - Bear
    Klefbom - Persson
    K. Russell - Benning

    Koskinen

The thing that stood out for me was Nurse. He is a horrible passer coming out of our zone. The puck gets turned over almost every time. He should learn to hang onto the puck longer and go up the ice with it himself while looking for someone to pass it to.

Chiasson belongs on the 2nd line. Patrick Russell belongs in the line-up with his awesome +/- on the Condors.

Granlund needs to be off the Oilers. His +/- careerr is -41
Haas was sent down to Bakersfield. He is not exhibiting NHL material
Nygard, Persson (day-to-day), and Larsson are damaged
I would bring up Tyler Benson to fill the ??? hole on the 4th line

    The lines therefore, shold be...

    Draisaitl-McD-Kassian
    Chiasson-RNH-Neal
Khaira-Sheahan-Patrick (Sheahan has a -41 career and is already -4 this season; they got to get rid of him and Granlund)
    Jurco-???-Archibald

    Nurse-Bear
Klefbom-Persson (Klefbom had 5 grade A chances against him, defensively he falls apart and seems brain dead at times)
    Benning-Russell

Oilers true colors are showing. Everything the past 10 games has been all hype. Sheahan and Granlund are horrible players, the two worst plus-minus players on the team. Sheahan has 0 points in 7 games, minus 4 so far this season, and career minus 41. You can't turn water into wine. Next we have Granlund minus 2 this season, minus 41 career, 0 points this season. Since Holland is the one who acquired these players, he is to blame, and we are witnessing what horrible plus-minus players can do to a team. Oilers as an organization still have not appreciated this fact, year upon year. It really is comical. You can win a few games at the start of the season based on grit, positive outlook, and desire, but that only takes you so far. Oilers won't make the playoffs because their defense and bottom two offensive lines are very weak.

As for Klefbom we have always known he has low hockey IQ, known for his absurd mistakes and careless give ways. He should have been traded years ago. His career is minus 48 and minus 2 this season. These bad numbers are not going to get better, only worse and worse.

    Oilers 4 Capitals 3 (OT)

I finally realize what Tippett is doing in his coaching. He is telling the top producers to keep producing, but for the rest of the team, he is telling them to battle it along the boards (since they can't generate points anyhow), get dirty, and fight which will open up space for the point getters.
