Death was not intended by God, but is a result of the fall of man. Death is an inescapable fact (Heb. 9.27). Science, therefore, will never conquer death (Job 14.1-5, Eccl. 3.1). Death is man's punishment for disobedience (Rom. 5.12-17, 6.23; James 1.14,15).
Separation by death is from body and soul, not annihilation. You will not cease to exist. It is not that simple. The sufficiency of Christ's atonement undercuts any theory of reincarnation of transmigration (Heb. 1.3, 1 John 1.7, 1 Peter 2.24).
The first occurence in the Bible of Sheol is Genesis 37.35. This is highly important according to the Law of First Mention.
-Jacob believed his son Joseph was still conscious after death and he would be united with him (Gen. 37.35).
After death we still retain our identity. The places of hades is geocentic: "down there".
