Jesus fulfilled a prophecy in Ezekiel about forgiveness of sins

"I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh" (Ez. 36.25,26).

Our old spirit is quickened and we are given a new spirit as well as the Holy Spirit to indwell this new spirit of ours. And this gives as soft heart, no longer rough and tough in the world of obsessions and things placed above God.
