Most scholars believe Paul was a person, and they accept most of his writings, especially Galatians, 1 Corinthians and other early ones.

Paul says on several occasions he met with Peter, James and John and the creeds were formed and they agreed. Paul accepted their testimony they saw Jesus resurrected and they accepted Paul's testimony he saw Jesus resurrected bodily as well. Paul says this in his own writing or a scribe that he dictated to.

The apostles went to their death proclaiming the resurrection and deity of Christ. Would people go through the rest of their lives preaching something they didn't believe, knowingly lying about day after day? Would that bear on their conscience and deem them to be most despicable people? In the light of walking with Jesus for three and a half years in His ministry, could they actually be such horrible liars? Do you know any human being who would do this knowing, given previous examples, that this would surely lead to be martyred by the cross or burned at the stake or imprisoned for life? After all, initially none of the disciples believed Jesus would be resurrected. Would you? But something happened. They all of a sudden changed their minds about Him.

Miraculously, He was seen by all the apostles. Hence, the church was born.
